Tips To Stop Biting Your Nails

Biting your nails is a problem we’ve most likely all experienced at some point in our lives.Whether it’s from anxiety, stress or just out of plain habit, it affects all of us. With the holiday season and lots of parties coming up, we’re going to want to look our best starting with our nails. So if you have a problem with nail biting, here’s some of my favourite tips to nip that bad habit in the bud.

Cut your nails short
If you have a problem biting your nails due to them being long, keep them cut short to keep them from distracting you. Nails don’t have to be super long to look great. Short, even and well manicured can look really classy and stylish.

Buy anti-biting polish
If willpower is your struggle, you could always try an anti-biting polish like Stop n Grow Stops Nail Biting Deterrent. It’s super cheap and really effective. It’s a clear bitter-tasting polish that keeps your from chowing down on your nails. Trust me, you aren’t going to want your fingers anywhere near your mouth with this on them.

Get a regular manicure
One of the best things I can do to keep me from biting my nails, is have a nice fresh manicure with a bright colour. It makes me take a lot more notice of my nails and I can catch myself  before taking a nibble. Plus, if you’ve paid for a manicure it’s going to be such a waste money. Tell people
Sometimes biting your nails can be a subconscious thing and you may not even realise you’re doing it. Tell your friends and family you’re trying to stop and that you need their help to keep you accountable. Or, at least slap your fingers out of your mouth.

De-Stress
Stress or anxiety is a major reason for nail biting. Ever found yourself chomping away before an interview, big presentation or when you’ve got far too much going on in your head? Yup, stress will do that to you. De-stressing is the best thing you can do. Take a bath, meditate, buy a colouring book or head to the spa for a massage.

Get Gel or Acrylic Nails
If you really want long natural nails for a certain occasion, it might be worth trying gel or acrylic. It acts as a barrier between your teeth and your nails, so there’s no way of getting to them. Make sure you go to a reputable salon to get them done and go back to soak them off, or you risk your real nails being in an even worse condition that before.

Keep A Nail File On Hand
This one kind of falls into the get a regular manicure section, but if you find your favourite cure for jagged nails is to tear them off, it might be worth you keeping a nail file in your makeup bag when you’re out and about. File your nail down so it’s even and smooth to keep it from catching on something or you biting at it.

Make An Effort
While it’s easy to know you want to stop biting your nails, it’s the actual stopping that’s the hard part. You actually have to put the effort in to consciously stop and have the willpower to put some of these tips into place.
